DIRECTV Japan’s Superbird C satellite successfully launches

January 30th, 2008

Chairman Gareth C.C. Chang commented: “Superbird C’s successful launch is a pivotal moment in moving DTVJ closer to launch this fall. The operation of the satellite allows us to actively test the quality of our service before we introduce it nationally to our subscribers.'’

Along with this successful communication satellite (CS) launch, DTVJ is near completion of its broadcast center and customer center.

JAS Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Service Inc. used Atlas SB-6 to launch Superbird C, which hereafter will be stationed 144 degrees east longitude. Upon completion of an orbital confirmation test, approximately 40 days after launch, Superbird C will be operational. DTVJ is planning its test operation in September, followed by a consumer rollout in November.

DTVJ is a partnership between DIRECTV International Inc. (DTVI), a unit of Hughes Electronics Corp.; Culture Convenience Club Co. Ltd. (CCC); Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (MEI); Space Communications Corp. (SCC); Mitsubishi Electric Co. Ltd. (MELCO); Mitsubishi Corp. (MC); and Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. (DNP).
