How do I reprogram a remote control for a Sirius Sportster radio?

I recently bought a new remote control for my Sirius Sportster radio to replace the one I had lost. It doesn’t work out of the box, so I assume there is some kind of syncing up that I need to do in order to get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

there is no syncing involved either the remote is bad or the ir sensor on the sat unit went bad. sorry
