We missed last week’s episode because our Christmas travel plans got in the way, so this week we made up for it, promise. Lots of Blu news to go around as Blu-ray had the great Christmas everyone was hoping for, in fact a recent poll showed that more EHD readers upgraded to Blu-ray in ‘08 then in previous two years. This success was also indicated in the recent sales of The Dark Knight, which sold 1.7 Million copies. But this year was also the year of Netflix Watch Instantly, and other streaming services, as there is also more good news for them. Speaking of which, we also talk a bit about moving away from traditional sources of content, and no were not talking about Hulu. Finally we discuss a few of our CES expectations, including XStreamHD and LG’s uninteresting 480hz Trumotion. Live shots via Skype coming to a TV near you
WTSP sent a reporter to Ft. Lauderdale this week to cover the big college bowl game. For her live shots, theres no satellite truck. No engineer. And no photographer. Just a laptop and Skype: Al Tompkins has the details on how they did it, which is quite simple, actually. While, the technology isnt new, TV stations have been slow to embrace Internet live shots over quality concerns, but all thats about to change. Extreme cost-cutting will bring IP-delivered video to the airwaves in a big way. After all, if you have to choose between a slightly-choppy, standard-def live shot or no live shot at all, the decision is pretty simple.

Open Question: What song can’t you get out of your head today?
Satellite radio sprung “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” on me on their “easy listening” channel the other day, and now it just won’t stop!
Baw — I thought “Ben” (an ode to a killer rat) should have one the Oscar for best song that year, just because of MJ’s voice.
