Radiation storm causing CMEs always ’scream’ in advance
Washington, May 29 : Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are laced with magnetic field and can disable satellites, cause cancer in unprotected astronauts in space, and also churn up magnetic storms, which can cause widespread blackouts by overloading power line equipment with extra electric current. Now, astronomers have found that CMEs with powerful shocks capable of causing radiation storms “scream” in radio waves as they slam through the solar wind
