Getting Sassy with…Kudu
We here around the culture of me were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines. And while those titles are long gone, the sentiment of how they covered the culture industries has indeed left its mark on writers and culture vultures everywhere. It is because of that influence that we are proud to present our features post, “Getting Sassy with…”, wherein we bring you that much closer to your favorite bands by way of a simple Q&A session that’s both painless and informative. Ha! Beat that, FOX News! This time: Kudu We’re willing to bet that the three kids in Kudu would never rethink the acronym for their band name: “kids under demonic usage”. That’s for sure. Their approach to music is diverse, in a “could only happen in New York” kind of way, where jazz and pop, dance and goth all meld together into an explosive mixture. We love them for a number of reasons, not the least of which being their hometown of Brooklyn (!) and also their strange penchant for making ESG-meets-Wendy O’Williams romps that are so overtly sexual and dangerous, even listening to them makes you feel like a dirty voyeur. But we don’t think we need to posit our argument for their relevance any further, as today marks the release of their album of remixes called Back For More which, by our account, is a tremendous accomplishment for any group. Each of the album’s tracks offers something different to the usual drums/synth/banshee formula, yet remains undeniably Kudu in its execution. We let frontwoman (and total sexual icon) Sylvia tell us all about pianos, pole dancing classes and completely not answering half of the questions on our list.
